Our commitment
At Miller Honda Van Nuys, we consider ourselves more than members of the business community. We are members of our local community, too. We participate in food drives and pet adoptions. We also assist in funding local reading and sports programs as well as contribute to causes such as Big Brother Big Sisters, the National Council of Jewish Women, and the American Red Cross. To learn more about the causes that we partake in, please read the descriptions below.
National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) Cell Phone Donations
- By donating a cell phone, the participant will be able to help an organization as well as help the environment. The collected cell phones will be recycled with the help of a third party. The proceeds from donating the cell phones will go to NCJW.
- The members of NCJW are extraordinary women of courage who share a vision to better the lives of others towards repairing the world. They try to clothe the needy, lead women from abusive lifestyles, help women find a voice, protect individuals, etc.
Los Angeles Regional Foob Bank
- The mission of the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank is to mobilize resources to fight hunger in our community.
- The Los Angeles Regional Foodbank provides enough food for over 575,000 meals each week, through its network of 1,000 charitable agency sites. The Los Angeles Regional Foodbank is the second largest organization of its kind in the nation and relies on the support of foundations, individual and corporate donors, government funding and volunteers.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles (BBBS)
- Donation of Children's Books and arts and crafts materials: BBBS need reading books for School Based mentors to read to their elementary and middle school students. They also need arts and crafts materials for interactive creative sessions.
- Their mission is to provide children in ned with professional one-on-one relationships, through mentoring, to succeed to their full potential.
- Goals:
- Strengthen the social, emotional, cognitive and behavioral competencies of children living in poverty;
- Improve the children’s commitment to school and to academic achievement;
- Improve the children’s understanding of healthy standards of behavior;
- Improve each child’s resilience, self-efficacy and sense of the future; and
- Strengthen each child’s sense of self-worth.
Adopt a Pet
- Miller on Van Nuys teams up with the animals from shelters and rescues throughout Southern California in hopes of finding families for theses desituteanimals.
- In 2007, over 15,000 animals were euthanized in animal shelters in the City of Los Angeles.
- The amount of cats and dogs being euthanized have dropped in ‘07. Help the numbers drop in 2008.
American Red Cross
- Mobile blood donation vehicle onsite
- Reasons for giving blood:
- You’re saving lives. Every 2 seconds, someone needs blood. If enough people give blood regularly, there will always be an adequate supply for the sick or injured. If not enough blood is given, there will be shortages which could result in needless illness and death.
- Allows you to monitor your health. Each time you donate your temperature, pulse, and blood pressure and twelve blood tests are done.
